Scope
EIRENE Functional Requirements Specification v8.1.0 (GSM-R Baseline 1 Maintenance Release 1), a mandatory RMR specification listed in Appendix A of the CCS TSI. It defines the functional requirements for railway mobile radio — voice group and railway emergency calls, functional addressing, location-dependent addressing and shunting communications — that GSM-R networks and cab radios must meet, and is applied by infrastructure managers, railway undertakings, radio suppliers and notified bodies alongside the initial FRMCS (Baseline 0) specifications.
The EIRENE Functional Requirements Specification, version 8.1.0 (GSM-R Baseline 1 Maintenance Release 1), is a mandatory Radio Mobile Communication (RMR) specification listed in Appendix A of the CCS TSI, defining the functional requirements that GSM-R networks and cab radio equipment must meet for railway mobile radio communication. It specifies requirements for voice group calls and railway emergency calls, functional addressing that lets calls be directed to a role (such as 'signaller for this section') rather than a specific telephone number, location-dependent addressing that adapts call routing as a train moves between areas, and shunting communication modes used during yard operations. GSM-R networks and cab radios placed in service under the current CCS TSI baseline must conform to this specification, alongside the initial Baseline 0 FRMCS specifications that are beginning to appear as the sector prepares for eventual migration to FRMCS. Infrastructure managers operate GSM-R networks conforming to this specification, railway undertakings equip their fleets with conformant cab radios, and radio equipment suppliers and notified bodies use it as the functional reference for GSM-R equipment conformity assessment. The current edition, EIRENE FRS v8.1.0, was published by the GSM-R Operators Group in February 2023.
