EIRENE SRS — System Requirements Specification

Scope

The EIRENE System Requirements Specification (SRS) v16.1.0 is the companion document to the EIRENE Functional Requirements Specification, translating GSM-R's functional requirements — voice group and railway emergency calls, functional addressing, shunting communications — into detailed, testable system requirements for GSM-R network and cab-radio equipment. It is mandated at v16.1.0 by Annex A of the CCS TSI alongside FRS v8.1.0 (Maintenance Release 1 requirements), which the library's GSM-R-FRS entry already covers.

Where the FRS states what the railway mobile radio system must functionally do, the SRS specifies how: message formats, protocol behaviours, timers, and detailed conformance requirements for the GSM-R air interface, core network and mobile/cab-radio terminals, developed and maintained by the GSM-R Operators Forum Group (GSM-R OFG) under UIC and hosted by ERA among the CCS TSI's mandatory RMR (Radio Mobile Communication) specifications. The library's existing GSM-R-FRS entry already tracks the CCS TSI's combined RMR baseline — EIRENE FRS v8.1.0 and, in its baseline_applicability field, the SRS v16.1.0 reference — but points readers to the FRS document itself. This entry adds the SRS as its own citable, independently fetchable document, since practitioners specifying or testing cab radios and GSM-R network equipment work from the SRS's detailed requirements far more than from the FRS's functional statements. Both documents converge into FRMCS specifications as GSM-R is phased out; used by infrastructure managers, radio suppliers, GSM-R network operators and Notified Bodies assessing RMR conformity under the CCS TSI.
