Scope
Form-fit-function interface specification for the connection between the ETCS on-board equipment and the rest of the train, defining the hard-wired and serial (train bus) signals for functions such as brake commands, sleeping, traction cut-off and train data exchange. Mandatory as index 81 of the CCS TSI Appendix A specification set, it is used by ETCS on-board suppliers, rolling stock manufacturers and vehicle integrators to ensure interchangeable on-board units.
SUBSET-119 is the Form Fit Functional Interface Specification for the connection between ETCS onboard equipment and the rest of the train, defining both the hard-wired signal interface and the serial train-bus interface used to exchange functions such as brake commands, sleeping/non-leading mode control, traction cut-off requests and train composition or consist data. It gives ETCS onboard unit manufacturers and rolling stock integrators a standardised interface so that an ETCS onboard unit from one supplier can be integrated with train control and braking systems from other suppliers without a bespoke, one-off interface design for every vehicle project. Mandatory as index 81 of the CCS TSI Appendix A specification set, it must be implemented by any ETCS onboard equipment placed in service under the current TSI baseline. ETCS onboard suppliers, rolling stock manufacturers and vehicle integrators use it during the design and integration phase of fitting ETCS to a new or retrofitted vehicle, replacing the earlier and now outdated v1.1.0 edition previously used for older ETCS baselines. The current edition is version 4.0.0, dated 5 July 2023.
