    Scope

Defines the Form Fit Functional Interface Specification for the Eurobalise, the trackside-to-onboard data transmission module used at all ETCS levels, covering the electrical, mechanical and telegram-format interface between balise and onboard antenna unit/BTM. It is one of the mandatory ERTMS/ETCS specifications referenced in CCS TSI Annex A and is used by suppliers and Notified Bodies for balise-product interoperability certification.

SUBSET-036 is the Form Fit Functional Interface Specification (FFFIS) for the Eurobalise, the trackside-to-onboard data transmission module used to pass positional and movement authority information to trains at all levels of ETCS operation. It defines the electrical, mechanical and telegram-format interface between the physical balise unit installed in the track and the onboard antenna unit and balise transmission module (BTM) that reads it as a train passes over, ensuring balises and onboard reader equipment from different manufacturers can interoperate correctly. As one of the mandatory ERTMS/ETCS specifications referenced in Annex A of the CCS TSI, any balise or onboard BTM placed in service under the current TSI baseline must conform to this interface specification. Suppliers of balise products and Notified Bodies performing balise-product interoperability certification use it as the definitive interface reference during product development and conformity assessment. The current edition is version 3.1.0, dated 17 December 2015, developed and released by UNISIG, the industry consortium responsible for the core ETCS interface specifications.
