Scope
Defines the interface criteria for technical compatibility between pantographs and overhead contact lines, covering pantograph head geometry, static and mean contact force, current at standstill and interaction performance targets. Referenced by the Energy and Locomotives & Passenger TSIs, it is the key compatibility document for vehicle authorisation and route-compatibility checks by RUs, IMs and assessors.
EN 50367 defines the interface criteria required to achieve technical compatibility between pantographs and overhead contact lines, covering pantograph head geometry, the static and mean contact force the pantograph must apply, the current the pantograph must be able to collect at standstill, and target interaction performance parameters that indicate acceptable current collection quality. It is referenced directly by both the energy subsystem TSI and the locomotives and passenger rolling stock TSI, since pantograph-OCL compatibility depends on requirements set on both the infrastructure side (contact line geometry and tension) and the vehicle side (pantograph design and control). Infrastructure managers, railway undertakings and vehicle assessors use the standard for vehicle authorisation and for route-compatibility checks, confirming that a vehicle's pantograph is compatible with the overhead contact line systems installed on the routes it is intended to operate over. It is applied together with the measurement method of EN 50317 and the simulation validation method of EN 50318, completing the current-collection compatibility set covering interface criteria, physical measurement and simulation. The current edition in force is EN 50367:2020+A1:2022.
