Scope

The on-board equipment series under the PRM TSI: Part 1 specifies universal and accessible toilet modules, Part 2 covers wheelchair spaces, priority seats and elements for moving through the vehicle, and Part 3 covers clearways, doors and interior steps.

EN 16585 turns the PRM TSI's on-board accessibility clauses into buildable module specifications: the dimensions, manoeuvring envelopes, control forces and equipment of universal toilets (Part 1); wheelchair space geometry, companion seating and priority-seat requirements (Part 2); and the clearway widths, interior door and step rules that make a vehicle traversable (Part 3). All three parts are OJ-cited in both their 2017 and 2025 editions, giving presumption of conformity for the corresponding TSI PRM requirements. It is the daily reference of interior layout engineers and accessibility assessors on every new passenger vehicle programme, alongside EN 16584 for contrast and information and EN 16586 for the boarding interface.
