Project overview
This 1541 km high-speed line was approved by Vietnam's National Assembly on 30 November 2024. It comprises 23 passenger stations and 5 freight stations along a 350 km/h design-speed route from Hanoi (Ngoc Hoi) to Ho Chi Minh City (Thu Thiem), through 20 provinces/cities. The line uses 2x25 kV AC 50 Hz electrification, ERTMS Level 2 signalling and 1435 mm standard gauge. Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) and Ministry of Construction are delivering the project; construction is expected to begin in 2027, targeting first operations by 2035, at an estimated cost of USD 67.0 bn funded via state budget/bonds without foreign loans.
