    Project overview

    This 9 km metro line entered service in Australia. It comprises 5 stations and 9 km of tunnels. The line uses 1.5 kV DC overhead electrification, CBTC signalling and 1600 mm Iberian gauge. Rail Projects Victoria and Department of Transport and Planning Victoria are delivering the project, with Cross Yarra Partnership (Lendlease, John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Capella Capital — PPP Tunnels & Stations), Rail Systems Alliance (CPB, AECOM, Metro Trains Melbourne) and Rail Network Alliance (John Holland, KBR, Metro Trains, Rail Projects Victoria) as main contractors. It opened in 2025, with an investment of AUD 12.8 bn (~USD 8.6 bn).
