    Almaty–Astana High Speed Rail

Kazakhstan · Asia · High Speed Rail

    Planning VerifiedCapex: $5.00B

    Project overview

This 1,011 km high-speed rail line has been proposed in Kazakhstan, linking Astana and Almaty. It comprises 250 km/h design speed. The line uses 1520 mm Russian gauge. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) awarded France's Systra a design and construction-oversight contract in 2013, but the project was postponed in November 2013 over high costs and ridership doubts. As of late 2025 no dedicated high-speed rail infrastructure has been built in Kazakhstan, and no revised cost estimate, contractor, or target opening year has been publicly confirmed.
