    Project overview

    This 13.4 km metro line is operational in Kazakhstan, comprising 11 stations and 90 km/h design speed. The line uses 750 V DC third rail electrification and 1520 mm Russian gauge. Almaty Metro (Алматы Метросы) and Akimat of Almaty delivered the project; construction began in 1988 and the final Line 1 extension (Moskva-Bauyrzhan Momyshuly, 3.1 km, 2 stations) opened 30 May 2022, with a reported investment of USD 800 m. A separate Line 2 remains in early planning and is not reflected in these figures.
