Titagarh Rail Systems Wins Indian Railways Vendor Approval for Locomotive Traction Motors

Indian Railways has approved Titagarh Rail Systems as a certified vendor for three-phase asynchronous traction motors used in locomotives, clearing the company to supply up to 1,200 units annually under its newly registered capacity.

The registration, effective August 19, 2026, authorizes Titagarh to manufacture and supply type 6FRA-6068 locomotive traction motors, strengthening the company's in-house electrical propulsion division. Shares of Titagarh Rail Systems rose as much as 3% on the news, touching a day's high of Rs 858 against the previous close of Rs 831 on the NSE on 19 August.

The vendor status positions Titagarh to bid directly on upcoming Indian Railways locomotive tenders that require certified traction motor suppliers, rather than relying solely on international or third-party component makers. Analysts say the approval, subject to tender conditions and Indian Railways' procurement requirements, could meaningfully expand Titagarh's addressable market in the locomotive equipment segment as the railway pushes ahead with electrification and fleet modernization.

The move builds on Titagarh's broader push to expand railway engineering and manufacturing capacity in eastern India, where it has been investing in new design and production facilities.
