Scope

IEC 63341-1 is the first purpose-built international standard for fuel-cell power systems installed onboard rolling stock -- light rail vehicles, tramways, metros and mainline trains -- for traction propulsion. It specifies the scope of supply and the fluidic, electrical, thermal and mechanical interfaces of the onboard fuel-cell power system, together with environmental conditions, safety and reliability requirements, and marking, storage, transport, installation and maintenance requirements. Published in October 2025 (Edition 1.0), it is the reference standard as hydrogen rolling stock moves from demonstrator fleets toward series production.
