Project overview

The Kaunas-Vilnius spur of Rail Baltica, connecting the Vilnius railway node to the main European-standard-gauge Rail Baltica corridor. The Lithuanian government has approved the special plan for this section (land acquisition underway in Kaunas/Jonava districts); further land acquisition in Kaisiadorys/Elektrenai/Trakai/Vilnius districts is planned to start around 2030, following completion of the main Rail Baltica trunk line. Uses ERTMS Level 2 signalling and 1435 mm standard gauge.
