Project overview
The completion of the Lötschberg Base Tunnel's second tube, bringing the 34.6km tunnel to full double-track capacity. The CHF 1.7bn project includes ~7km of new bore and ~14km of equipping the existing shell that was left unfinished when the tunnel opened in 2007. Also includes completion of the 2.6km Engstlige Tunnel and two new Rhône bridges. Approved by the Swiss government in August 2023 as part of the AS2035 programme; construction starts 2026.
