North Macedonia Skopje-Thessaloniki Rail
North Macedonia · Europe · Conventional Rail
Project overview
North Macedonia side of the Skopje-Thessaloniki international rail corridor (part of Pan-European Corridor X). The original historic line dates to 1872, but that is not a current project milestone. An active Corridor X modernisation is under way on the North Macedonia side (double-tracking, electrification, new tunnels, targeting 160km/h), while cross-border passenger service between Skopje and Thessaloniki has been suspended since around 2020. Full current scope, cost and length of the modernisation were not conclusively pinned down and warrant dedicated follow-up.
