Aiming to reduce travel times across the Apennines to just two hours, this €16 billion program upgrades the link between the capital and the Adriatic coast. RFI began construction on the first two lots between Interporto d'Abruzzo and Scafa in early 2025 with an initial investment of €559 million. The project includes extensive track doubling, technological upgrades, and the elimination of level crossings to enhance service frequency.
