Catania Metro Extension (Stesicoro–Palestro)

Project overview

Currently under construction, this 2.2 km tunnel section represents the first lot of the strategic link between Stesicoro and Catania Airport. Ferrovia Circumetnea is utilizing tunnel boring machines to navigate lava rock and expects to complete the full 6.8 km airport extension by 2025. The project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund and includes the creation of eight new stations.
