Mechanical vibration - Ground-borne noise and vibration arising from rail systems - Part 1: General guidance

Scope

Provides general guidance on the prediction, measurement and assessment of ground-borne vibration and resulting ground-borne noise generated by the operation of rail systems - from light rail to high-speed and freight - running at grade, on elevated structures or in tunnels. It supports assessment of effects on building occupants and sensitive equipment and of vibration-related risk to building structures, excluding construction/maintenance vibration and airborne noise; it is used internationally by infrastructure managers and environmental-noise consultants for rail-vibration impact studies.
