Conditions for Coding Intermodal Transport Units, Combined Transport Lines and Wagons (IRS 50596-6)

Scope

IRS 50596-6 (the current designation of the former UIC leaflet 596-6) defines the compatibility-code system - codes C, ISO, N and P plus infrastructure correction digits - stencilled on combined-transport wagons and assigned to the lines they run on, letting operators verify gauge and profile compatibility between wagons, intermodal loading units and specific routes before loading. It is the technical-admission reference cited in ERA's combined-transport guidance and required wherever wagons need certification of their coding under Article 21 of Directive 2016/797.
