United Kingdom: Transport for Wales Launches Anonymous "TfW Protect" Hotline Against Cable and Metal Theft

Transport for Wales (TfW) launched "TfW Protect" on 27 July 2026, an anonymous reporting service for the public to flag suspected cable and metal theft on the rail network, the operator said in a statement. Reports can be made by phone on 0800 756 3477 or online at TfWProtect.co.uk.

The service is run by an independent charity that TfW said strips out identifying details before passing reports on: phone numbers are hidden, calls are not recorded, IP addresses are scrambled, and reports are sanitised so the source cannot be traced. TfW said people can still include details such as names, descriptions, dates, times and what3words locations for remote sites if they choose to.

Josh Hopkins, Head of Security, Risk and Resilience at Transport for Wales, said: "We're pleased to be launching TfW Protect, giving people a simple and completely anonymous way to share information about cable and metal theft affecting our railway." TfW said cable and metal theft causes delays, cancellations and wider disruption for passengers and the regional economy.
