Germany/Austria: Siemens hands over 2,000th Vectron to ÖBB at Munich-Allach
As part of a ceremonial event at the Munich-Allach locomotive plant on 23 July 2026, Siemens Mobility handed over the 2,000th electric Vectron locomotive built to Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).
With nearly 3,000 units sold to more than 115 customers, the Vectron stands as Europe's most successful locomotive platform. The locomotives are approved in 20 countries and certified for speeds of up to 230 km/h in passenger service. Production has been based at Munich-Allach since the platform's market launch in 2012.
Siemens Mobility is further developing the platform with the digital Vectron X, described by the company as an open digital locomotive platform with app-based applications for operators.
