Baltic Hub Signs 30-Year Lease for New Rail Facility to Handle 750-Metre Freight Trains at Gdańsk

The Port of Gdańsk Authority has signed a 30-year lease with Baltic Hub Container Terminal for a roughly 27-hectare site next to Baltic Hub's existing T2 deepwater terminal, finalising a deal first agreed in a preliminary tender-winning agreement announced by the port authority in January 2026, RailFreight.com, Container News and Splash247 reported on August 4-5, 2026.

The site will become Baltic Hub's second rail terminal, featuring a new siding capable of handling 750-metre-long freight trains, additional container storage yards and new cargo-handling equipment. Development will proceed in phases, with existing rail access and proximity to T2 cited by the port authority as key reasons the location was chosen over alternative sites.

The expansion is designed to increase the share of container traffic moving to and from the port by rail rather than road, reinforcing Gdańsk's position as a gateway for Baltic and Central European trade and supporting broader efforts to shift freight volumes away from road transport to cut supply-chain emissions.

For rail freight operators and logistics providers, the project adds meaningful intermodal capacity at one of the Baltic Sea's fastest-growing container hubs, building on earlier track and access upgrades already under way around the port of Gdańsk.
