Canada: AtkinsRéalis and Siemens Mobility Awarded Systems Contract for Québec City TramCité

AtkinsRéalis and Siemens Mobility have been awarded a systems co-development contract for the TramCité light rail project in Québec City, the companies announced on 16 July.

The contract is delivered through a joint venture between the two companies named Connexion Capitale, under a Progressive Design Build model. AtkinsRéalis will handle systems integration and engineering, project delivery oversight, and testing, commissioning and long-term maintenance oversight. Siemens Mobility will supply rail systems and technologies, including signalling, communications and electrification solutions, along with digital mobility expertise. Neither company disclosed the contract's value.

TramCité is a 19-kilometre tramway with 29 stations and a two-kilometre underground section, according to prior project disclosures. Construction is set to begin in 2027, with passenger service targeted for 2033.

Ian L. Edwards, President and CEO of AtkinsRéalis, said the project reflects the growing importance of integrated systems expertise in delivering complex transit infrastructure. Stéphanie Vaillancourt, President of AtkinsRéalis Canada, said the focus is on working closely with the client, partners and stakeholders to deliver an integrated transit system. Aaron Branston, CEO of Siemens Mobility Canada, said TramCité is "more than a transportation project — it's a city-shaping investment."
