Scope
Companion to EN 50126-1 providing guidance on the systems approach to safety within the railway RAMS lifecycle, covering hazard identification, risk assessment and the specification and allocation of safety requirements and safety integrity levels. Used by suppliers, railway undertakings, infrastructure managers and independent safety assessors when demonstrating the safety of railway systems and subsystems.
EN 50126-2 is the companion part to EN 50126-1 within the CENELEC RAMS series, providing detailed guidance on the systems approach to safety within the railway RAMS lifecycle process defined in Part 1. It covers the practical application of hazard identification and risk assessment techniques, and the specification and allocation of safety requirements and safety integrity levels across the elements of a complex railway system, translating the generic lifecycle process into concrete safety-engineering guidance. Suppliers, railway undertakings, infrastructure managers and independent safety assessors use it when demonstrating the safety of railway systems and subsystems, particularly where a system's safety functions are distributed across several interacting subsystems that must each contribute to an overall safety target. It is applied in conjunction with Part 1's lifecycle framework and with the more specific safety standards for software and signalling electronics that address individual technology domains within the broader systems-safety picture. The current edition in force is EN 50126-2:2017+A1:2024.
