Sydney Trains Digital Systems Program (ETCS L2 + DTRS)

Project overview

This signalling upgrade in Australia, deploying ERTMS Level 2. The line uses 1.5 kV DC overhead electrification, ERTMS Level 2 signalling and 1435 mm standard gauge. Transport for NSW and Sydney Trains are delivering the project, with Alstom (ETCS L2 trackside Bondi Junction–Erskineville framework), Siemens Mobility (ETCS L2 North Shore Tranche 2A) and Hitachi Rail STS (TMS — provisional) as main contractors. Under construction since 2018, the line is scheduled to open in 2030, with an investment of AUD 2.9 bn (~USD 1.9 bn).
