CAF Opens £10m Manchester Maintenance Depot for Wheelset and Bogie Overhaul
Spain's CAF has opened a £10m maintenance depot at Lowry Park, Manchester, covering 5,000 m² and dedicated to wheelset and bogie overhaul and refurbishment. CAF Rail UK formally opened the facility on 26 June 2026.
The depot expands CAF's UK maintenance network, enabling local overhaul of major train components for operators across the country. The wheelset and bogie overhaul capability reduces reliance on external workshops and shortens turnaround times for fleet maintenance.
The £10m investment covers the 5,000 m² facility at Lowry Park in Manchester. The depot handles maintenance and overhaul work on wheelsets, bogies and related components. CAF Rail UK operates the facility as part of its UK services network.
CAF already supplies rolling stock to multiple UK operators and the new depot strengthens its aftermarket presence. The Manchester location provides access to operators in northern England and Scotland. The wheelset and bogie facility complements CAF's existing UK maintenance infrastructure, which supports fleets delivered under various contracts over the past decade.
