Alstom Q1 Order Intake Reaches €4.1bn, Backs 5% Growth Target for FY 2026/27
France's Alstom recorded €4.1bn in order intake during the first quarter of fiscal year 2026/27, split between €2.3bn in large contracts (above €200m each) and €1.8bn in base orders, the company disclosed on 3 July ahead of its full quarterly release on 22 July.
The order book included a circa €800m rolling stock contract for an undisclosed customer in the Africa, Middle East and Central Asia region, and a circa €300m signalling and infrastructure modernisation package for Egypt. The group maintained its book-to-bill ratio above 1, indicating orders continue to outpace revenue recognition. Alstom reaffirmed full-year guidance: around 5% organic sales growth, 4,400 to 4,500 car production, and an adjusted EBIT margin (earnings before interest and tax, adjusted for one-time items) of around 6%.
Operational milestones during the period included the European Union Agency for Railways granting marketing authorisation to the TGV-M high-speed trainset, enabling commercial deployment across the EU. The Regio2N platform in France reached 500 manufactured trainsets, a cumulative production milestone for the double-deck regional train family. The 100th RER NG commuter train for the Paris region entered commercial service, marking serial deployment of the next-generation suburban fleet. Outside Europe, the first Airport People Mover system at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was commissioned, and the Cairo Monorail began revenue operation.
The €300m Egypt contract covers signalling systems and infrastructure upgrades, extending Alstom's footprint in a market where it has previously delivered metro rolling stock and electrification. The €800m rolling stock order, though its end customer remains unnamed, represents one of the largest single contracts in the quarter. Base orders, historically weighted to the second half of the fiscal year, totalled €1.8bn in Q1, consistent with seasonal patterns observed in the last four fiscal years.
The TGV-M marketing authorisation from the European Union Agency for Railways clears the trainset for cross-border operation under EU interoperability rules, a prerequisite for deployment on international high-speed corridors. The Regio2N milestone reflects sustained output at Alstom's French sites, where the platform has been in serial production since its introduction. The RER NG fleet for Paris region commuter services is part of a broader modernisation of suburban rail infrastructure serving the Île-de-France metropolitan area.
Alstom's Q1 performance sets a baseline for a fiscal year in which the supplier aims to scale production toward the upper end of its 4,400–4,500 car range while holding margins near 6%. The company will publish detailed sales and order figures on 22 July at 18:00 CEST.
