Alstom Advances €50m Kazakhstan Investment for Middle Corridor Capacity
France's Alstom has advanced a €50m investment programme to expand rail services capabilities in Kazakhstan, supporting operations on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), the company announced 11 June.
The investment strengthens Alstom's services network across Kazakhstan and contributes to operation of major freight corridors linking Asia and Europe. The company's team in Astana powers Middle Corridor rail capacity through locomotive maintenance and support.
Alstom stated that the growing importance of the Middle Corridor validates its long-term strategic partnership with Kazakhstan. The Trans-Caspian route — also known as the Middle Corridor — connects Chinese and Central Asian networks to European markets via the Caspian Sea, bypassing more northerly routes.
The €50m programme builds on Alstom's existing presence in Kazakhstan, where the company has established maintenance and services infrastructure. The investment focuses on expanding technical capabilities to support rising freight volumes on the corridor.
Kazakhstan's position on the Middle Corridor has gained commercial significance as global trade patterns shift. Alstom's services expansion in Astana directly supports the operational capacity of locomotives moving freight between Asian and European markets on the route.
