Gianpiero Strisciuglio appointed CEO of Italy's FS Group for 2026-2028

Italian State Railways (FS) appointed Gianpiero Strisciuglio as CEO and general manager on 13 July 2026. The appointment covers a three-year term from 2026 to 2028.

Strisciuglio replaces Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, who resigned on 30 June 2026, a year before the end of the mandate he had begun in June 2024. The appointment followed a two-step process on 13 July 2026: the shareholders' meeting — the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance is FS's sole shareholder — appointed the new Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term and confirmed Tommaso Tanzilli as chair, and the newly installed Board then named Strisciuglio chief executive.

From March 2025 to July 2026, Strisciuglio served as CEO and general manager of Trenitalia. He previously led infrastructure manager RFI as CEO and general manager from May 2023 to March 2025, and before that headed Mercitalia Logistics. With the FS Group since the early 2000s, his appointment marks a return to an internal manager at the top of the group after a series of external chief executives.

The appointment positions Strisciuglio to lead Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane S.p.A. through 2028. His tenure at Trenitalia focused on innovation and fleet expansion before his elevation to the group-level role.
