GMV Wins Contract for Standardised Passenger Information System on Barcelona Metro

Spain's technology group GMV has been awarded a contract by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) to develop and deploy a standardised passenger information system across the Barcelona metro fleet.

The system will integrate all onboard passenger information into a single scalable platform, providing real-time updates on upcoming stations, available connections and service disruptions. The solution is designed to support onboard communications across various train types currently operating in the Barcelona metro network.

GMV's approach uses existing IT infrastructure on the rolling stock, avoiding the need for specific hardware installations on individual trains. The system includes a centralised management platform for real-time monitoring and is designed for progressive deployment across different train series in the fleet.

The contract follows a technology procurement strategy focused on standardisation across TMB's diverse rolling stock. Barcelona metro operates multiple train series with varying technical specifications, and the new platform will provide a unified passenger information interface regardless of train type. The deployment model allows TMB to roll out the system incrementally without disrupting existing operations.
