Stadler Expands Salt Lake City Plant to 475,000 sq ft on 10th US Anniversary

Switzerland's Stadler Rail expanded its Salt Lake City manufacturing facility by 245,000 square feet on July 1, bringing total plant size to 475,000 square feet. The expansion marks the company's 10th anniversary of operations in the United States.

The investment will create up to 300 additional jobs at the site, which currently employs around 750 people. The new space includes a CNC production hall for cutting aluminium panels, with a groundbreaking ceremony held to launch the expansion. The facility manufactures passenger rail vehicles for operators including Caltrain in California, Metra in Chicago, TexRail and MARTA.

Stadler began operations in Utah in 2016 and opened its permanent Salt Lake City manufacturing plant in 2019. The company selected Utah as its North American manufacturing base a decade ago. Swiss President Guy Parmelin attended the anniversary celebration.

The expanded plant strengthens Stadler's North American production capacity for multiple-unit rolling stock. The Salt Lake City site serves as the company's primary US manufacturing hub, producing vehicles for commuter and regional rail operators across the country. The facility's workforce has grown substantially since opening, with the expansion enabling production volume increases to meet order commitments.
