Utah Transit Authority orders 20 more Stadler light rail vehicles

Utah Transit Authority has awarded a contract to Stadler Rail for an additional 20 light rail vehicles under an option in the original 2024 contract. The order expands the operator's fleet of Stadler Citylink tram-trains for Salt Lake City's light rail network.

The initial contract, signed on 23 October 2024, was valued at $129 million for 20 Stadler Citylink light rail cars. That agreement was funded in part by a Federal Transit Administration grant. The 2024 contract included options to purchase up to 60 more vehicles.

The new order brings the total number of Citylink vehicles on order to 40. The original 2024 contract allowed for a potential total of up to 80 vehicles if all options are exercised.

The additional order, announced on 28 October 2025, demonstrates the operator's continued confidence in the Citylink platform.
