This 730 km rail upgrade is currently suspended in Kenya. The line uses diesel traction and 1435 mm standard gauge. Kenya Railways Corporation and Uganda Railways Corporation are delivering the project, with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC, original MoU; not signed) as main contractor. Investment is USD 5.3 bn.
