Budapest–Esztergom Railway Electrification and Modernisation is a rail upgrade project in Hungary, currently operational.
This 48.3 km electrification programme upgrades the existing Hungary corridor to 25 kV AC 50 Hz. The line uses 25 kV AC 50 Hz electrification, ERTMS Level 2 signalling and 1435 mm standard gauge. NIF Zrt. is delivering the project, with Hitachi Rail (formerly Thales Ground Transportation Systems — ETCS) as main contractor. It opened in 2024, with an investment of EUR 187 m (~USD 204 m).
Construction began in 2017 and the project opened in 2024.
