NRIC Bulgaria Sofia–Plovdiv Elin Pelin–Kostenets Modernisation is a rail upgrade project in Bulgaria, currently under construction.
This 51 km rail upgrade is under construction in Bulgaria. It comprises 160 km/h design speed. The line uses 25 kV AC 50 Hz electrification, ERTMS Level 2 signalling and 1435 mm standard gauge. NRIC (National Railway Infrastructure Company), Bulgaria is delivering the project, with Trace Group, Arcada and Ferrovial Agroman as main contractors. Under construction since 2021, the line is scheduled to open in 2028, with an investment of EUR 665 m (~USD 732 m).
Construction began in 2021, with completion expected in 2028.
