Project overview
This 341 km rail upgrade is under construction in Tanzania. The line uses 25 kV AC 50 Hz electrification, ERTMS Level 1 signalling and 1435 mm standard gauge. Tanzania Railways Corporation is delivering the project, with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and China Railway Construction Corporation as main contractors. Under construction since 2022, the line is scheduled to open in 2026, with an investment of USD 1.3 bn.
