This massive expansion scheme adds seven new tram lines to the Palermo network to connect outlying districts with the central rail stations. The City of Palermo prioritized the 8 km Tratta C extension to link Calatafimi with the university hub at Orleans station. The €700 million project aims to provide a sustainable, high-capacity alternative for residents currently underserved by rapid transit.

Construction began in 2025, with completion expected in 2029.
