Hekurudha Shqiptare, founded in 1945 and headquartered in Durrës, is the wholly state-owned Albanian national rail operator running passenger and freight services on the country's 423-km network. With around 1,100 employees, it operates a heavily-degraded legacy network undergoing rehabilitation under EBRD-backed programmes including the Tirana-Durrës-Rinas Airport line.
